Mombasa Cement will commission its new 36MW wind farm at Kilifi in December. The facility is composed of 12 wind turbines of 3MW each and will supply its 1.6Mta Athi River cement plant in Machakos County. The Kilifi wind farm is set up on a 1200h site owned by Mombasa Cement in Vipingo, a small coastal village located about 30km north of Mombasa. Holcim Argentina to replace 35% of energy with wind power

Holcim Argentina has signed a contract with YPF Luz to replace 35 per cent of its conventionally-sourced energy with wind power. This translates to 142,000Mwh per annum of demand, which YPF Luz will supply from its 30MW Los Teros wind farm. Mombasa Cement is set to build a 36MW wind farm in Kilifi for its own energy use and sale to Kenya Power. The project, which consists of 12 turbines of 3MW each, will cost an estimated KES260m (US$2.5m).
